In conversation with Art Monthly’s Chris McCormack, Susan Jones considers the implications for artists trying to make a living from art practices in an impossible arts infrastructure”.

Hosted by Art Monthly Radio in July 2023, this discussion expands on a text in AM July/August issue that shows how funding models exploit artists’ labour. The discussion highlights how contemporary visual art infrastructures exacerbate artists’ poor economic position, drawing on current research into arts policy’s attitudes and approaches to supporting artists’ practices since the pandemic. It ends by positing the structural resets’ needed to improve artists’ social and economic status.
